Busting 5 myths about CBD
While there has been enough scientific data to support the benefit of cannabidiol or CBD, it is still something that has a bad reputation among the masses. In this blog, we will clear up some of the confusion about CBD and separate myth from fact.
Myth #1 – CBD has a psychoactive effect
It is often believed that CBD causes the same mind-altering effect as Marijuana – its close relative. However, their parent plant Cannabis Sativa has more than 80 biologically active compounds and the two plants i.e., CBD and Marijuana have different ingredients. While the primary ingredient in Marijuana – delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is psychoactive, the primary ingredient in CBD is actually quite beneficial, leading to a number of health benefits.
Myth #2 – CBD is illegal
It is common misconception that CBD is illegal. Due to this myth, most people refrain from consuming it even though they are well aware of its health benefits. Although Cannabis is listed as a controlled substance in the Misuse of Drugs Act, CBD is not. All one has to do is ensure that it contains less than 0.2% THC.
Myth #3 – All CBD products are the same
This is a big NO. The quality of CBD varies from product to product since it can come in different levels of quality and lab-testing. While the actual cannabinoid is the same, the way it is extracted, and the level of purity makes all the difference. Thus, it is incredibly important that you do a quality check before purchasing any CBD product and also make sure that you take note of all the ingredients.
Myth #4 – CBD doesn’t cure any medical condition
Time and again, you must have across someone who believes that CBD actually doesn’t cure any medical condition. However, there has been enough scientific research data to prove that CBD helps relieve anxiety and depression, limits the amount of seizures suffered by a person with two forms of epilepsy – the Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), and the Dravet syndrome, reduces certain symptoms related to cancer treatment and several other medical conditions. Myth #5 – CBD is just another marketing gimmick
The medical industry has time and again been accused of making money out of people’s grief and a section of people believe that CBD is just another marketing scam by them. However, that is not true. While the research on CBD is still in its early stages, there is enough data to back up its benefits.
In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. CBD has been demonstrated as an effective treatment of epilepsy in several clinical trials, with one pure CBD product (Epidiolex) currently in Phase III trials. There is also preliminary evidence that CBD may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.”
Thus, it is fair to assume that CBD is not just another trend and actually holds a lot of benefits up its sleeve.
